Paddle from CIH
Sunday May 15
By: Robert Tongen
Keith Elliott, Bob Glickman, Robert Sterling, Peter O'Sullivan and I launched to the sounds of the sea lion mating calls from the sand on the south side of the channel. It was mostly overcast and gusty through the morning. We paddled out to the pond area and spotted a pair of dolphins coming by and at times chasing fish. We enjoyed the swells coming off the north end of the breakwater and studied the wave patterns in the pond area where it is a good playground for kayakers.

Keith has been doing structural repairs and leak sealing to Joe Barrett's well used Northwestern red and white kayak. It was good to see it back on the water riding high and dry. He said cosmetic repairs for it are next.

We soon followed Bob's lead and headed in to check out the changes in the harbor and the absence of the hotel on the island. As the wind came up stronger we turned and headed for Kiddie Beach. It was surprisingly chilly as we were cleaning up on the shore.

It was nice to finally meet Robert Sterling.

That is the way it was the day before the Super Flower Blood Moon, in May, 2022.
