Paddle from Channel Islands Harbor
Sunday March 21
By: Robert Tongen
Peter O'Sullivan, Hugh Warren, Lance Pillsbury and I launched from the EZ Launch dock in Channel Islands Harbor this morning before 9:00. There was a slight breeze at our back as we paddled through the harbor. Turning the corner to look down the channel entrance to the harbor we could see white foam coming over the breakwater. As we got out of the channel, we watch a large cargo ship entering the Port of Hueneme. It appeared they had moved the large crane dredging the harbor out of the port to allow the ship in and then moved it back into the port. We did not see it doing any dredging.

Lance and Hugh decided to paddle to the oil platform Gina. They reported an easy paddle into the swells on the way out, but could not explain why it was such a slog back even with a slight wind at their back. Peter and I paddled west of the breakwater making sure the whales did not sneak behind Lance and Hugh. None of us saw any whales or dolphins.

That is the way it was this first Sunday in Spring. A nice day to be on the water.
