Description:
You can paddle around the protected harbor or venture out into the ocean. Channel Islands Harbor is often the launch point for trips to Oil Platform Gina (3.5 NM) and to Anacapa Island (11 NM). If you head north past the jetty there is a good practice and surfing zone. Swells can range from waist to double head high so check a surf report before going. This is a beach break but emulates a point break with steep faces and good shoulders to ride. The beach is sandy and the surf can be shallow at low tide. There is a small current and rip that makes swimming a swamped boat to shore an exercise.
Heading up the coast you will pass sandy beaches, a power plant, Ventura Harbor, and Emma Woods State Beach.
